The Chimes (Charles Dickens)

Rating: [ 3/5]- Worth the Read

A classic by Dickens, this book is introspective into humanity’s darkness and strife for noble action.

This short story is written in the classical style. I found it a bit dense to get through at times but the underlying themes are really interesting and made me think a lot about how I’d carried myself that year.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Stieg Larson, David Lagercrantz)

Rating: [ 4/5]- Read it.

This thriller grabbed me and didn’t let me go. The first in a series, it is a fantastic book with a female protagonist who stands up for what’s right!

The book has elements in it that are not for the faint of heart. This book both made me feel uncomfortable and emotionally involved in the plot. It’s a fantastic book that I recommend generously to those who love thrillers. I specifically enjoy this series because it dives into the psyche of the protagonist as each book reveals another layer of who she is and what happened to her. I always come back wanting more.

By the way, I’ve resigned commenting more on the series because I don’t want to ruin the plot.

If you like the first one jump into the next right away and you won’t be disappointed!

The Martian (Andy Weir)

Rating: [5/5] – Read it you fool!

The funniest book I read in all of 2015/2016;  a perfect gift for nerds, engineers, and scientists alike.

This is by far my most gifted book (full disclosure: most of my friends have the same quirky engineer style humour as I do). Andy Wier did his research on this book and created a science-based sci-fi book that rekindled my interest in space and NASA. Above it all he did it in a style that kept me laughing and curious about what was going to happen next.
