The Girl on the Train (Paula Hawkins)

Rating: [3/5]- Worth the Read

A good thriller that caught my attention and kept it.

I found the concept was really well thought out and the mystique of it all kept me interested. It is mostly told from the internal narrative of Rachel a daily train commuter. If I had to choose between the paperback and audiobook this is a story where the audiobook really brought the characters to life for me.

Crucial Conversations (Kerry Patterson et. al.)

Rating: [ 4/5]- Read it.

This book is a great first step to acting on interpersonal skill development and attacking the daunting challenge of bringing up and discussing uncomfortable topics.

I first read this book on a flight to New Orleans. It’s a quick read, but make sure you have a notepad handy. I spent my flight back reviewing my notes and coming up with a few simple actions to help me attack uncomfortable topics in my career and personal life. This book helped me learn to better control my emotions, be focussed on conflict resolution, and emphasized the importance of listening and entering into tough conversations with the right outlook and persona. A great read for someone starting out their career.

We Learn Nothing (Tim Kreider)

Rating [3/5] – Worth the Read

Funny and inciteful Tim Kreider had me laughing and thinking about the collection of short stories from start to finish; it is worth the read.

This is a collection of essays about the shortcomings of humanity. Brief, but inciteful I really enjoyed listening to this and would recommend borrowing it from your library, especially if you can find an audiobook version of it.
